Today we're delighted to announce the discovery of one of the oldest and most complete wooden tools ever found in Britain. The spade was discovered during archaeological excavations by Wessex Archaeology for The Moors at Arne project.
Rising from the intertidal deposits on Sand o’Erraby, a beach in Sanday, Orkney Islands, winter storms exposed a single large section of a wooden ship hull. The wreck has now been transferred into a freshwater conservation tank with the help of our marine specialists.
