Tom Wright CBE

As the Chair of Wessex Archaeology’s Board, I bring extensive experience working with complex stakeholders and setting up collaborations with other like-minded organisations. I work with my fellow Trustees to support the organisation with strategic development in areas of great importance to its future. 

I started my career as a marketer, helping to develop brands such as Center Parcs and Saga and went on to lead the National Tourist Boards: Visit Britain and Visit England. 

My love for history and heritage has shaped my career since, and I am a serving Trustee for the National Museum of the Royal Navy, The Imperial War Museum Development Trust, The UK Antarctic Heritage Trust, and Leeds Castle. More broadly, I have worked in the health and social care sector, including as the Senior Independent Director of NICE and recently retired as Chief Executive of Guide Dogs. 

My passion for history and heritage has led me to the Chalke History Festival where I serve as the part-time Managing Director. I have a great interest in the environment, reflected by serving as a Trustee of the Land Trust.
