Stephen Smith

An experienced finance professional and Chartered Accountant, I joined Wessex Archaeology as Chief Financial Officer and a member of the Executive Management Team in September 2023.  

I am responsible for the financial performance of the group, including financial planning and control.

Before joining Wessex Archaeology, I ran my own financial management consultancy practice helping clients to effect financial change. During my career I have worked for global banking, asset management, insurance and investment companies in various financial roles, led high performing teams and advised Boards.

I am motivated by working with great teams to improve financial performance and build resilient companies that do good things.

I am a Trustee of Serious, a charity running projects to engage people through music and music making and Treasurer of a grassroots rugby club with more than 350 people under 18.
