Expertise

Trustee

As a Trustee, I draw on my knowledge and experience of global archaeology and heritage, gained primarily as an academic, to help inform the strategic direction of our organisation.

I am a Professor of Archaeology at Durham University. Alongside my academic teaching and research work, I am the incoming Editor of the global archaeology journal, Antiquity. I was elected a Fellow of the Society of Antiquaries in 2005 and, in 2019, was made an Honorary Member of the European Association of Archaeologists, having served as General Editor of the European Journal of Archaeology for 9 years. I am also a Guest Professor in the School of Archaeology at Jilin University, China, and have served as a Member of the National Trust’s Archaeology Advisory Panel.

My research explores a variety of themes within the overlapping inter-disciplinary fields of material, visual and sensual culture studies, and museum and heritage studies. This research is published widely and I collaborate on a range of research projects. This includes an AHRC-funded initiative partnering with museum and heritage professionals in Jordan intended to enhance the educational significance of museums for Jordanian citizens.
