Expertise

Geoarchaeology & Environmental

I joined Wessex Archaeology in 2021 as an Environmental Archaeologist at the Salisbury office. I specialise in the identification of charred (and occasionally waterlogged and mineralised) plant remains including cereal grains and chaff, fruits, and wild seeds. My work contributes to the understanding of human-environment interactions from the exploitation of the landscape, resource selection, agricultural activities, and reconstructing past diets.

My career thus far has predominantly focused on analyses late Prehistoric, Romano-British, and medieval material, but I am enjoying the opportunity to look at Neolithic and Bronze Age archaeobotanical material and learning as much as I can every day.

My daily roles include sorting and identifying material in environmental samples, immensely enjoying identifying new and interesting seeds, and carrying out assessments and analyses of archaeobotanical material.

In my spare time I enjoy walking and drinking copious amounts of tea.
