Madeline Denmead

As a Trustee, I have responsibility with my co-Trustees for governing Wessex Archaeology and overseeing how it is run.  Given my specialist financial expertise, I am also the Chair of the Risk and Audit Committee. 

I joined Wessex Archaeology as a Trustee in February 2024. I bring with me over twenty years’ experience of operating at Board-level overseeing how charities, public bodies and commercial businesses are organised and managed to deliver a range of strategic aims, addressing large-scale complex issues often in challenging circumstances.  

I have worked extensively within the Creative Industries including at the BBC, Hearst Magazines and the Design Council.  In the last decade, I have held senior leadership roles in a number of charities, most notably Cancer Research UK and WWF UK.  I enjoy supporting purpose-driven organisations to achieve their goals. 

I am a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (FCA). In addition to being a Trustee of Wessex Archaeology, I am currently a Governor of the University of Portsmouth and an External Adviser to the Royal College of Nursing.
