Gareth Chaffey

I have held a number of roles at Wessex Archaeology since joining in 2001 and am currently a Senior Project Manager which involves overseeing large long-term projects across the south of England, including Sherford, Plymouth (Devon), Riding Court Farm, Datchet (Berkshire) and Lyde Road, Yeovil (Somerset). I have a keen interest in the Neolithic and Bronze Age periods and have been published in a number of academic volumes and journal articles. I also give regular talks and lectures to the local community.

Over the years, I have been involved in creating new developments and standards within the company and am currently working on new project management and accounting systems to create efficiencies across the fieldwork and post-excavation teams.

I am driven by improving good archaeological practice across the board, with a passion to keep improving the already high standards of the company.

My spare time is mainly focused around my young family, but I also enjoy sports, particularly surfing, gardening and music.
