Expertise

Geoarchaeology & Environmental

I joined the geoarchaeology team at Wessex Archaeology in April 2021 as a Principal Geoarchaeologist, based in Salisbury. My areas of expertise are the reconstruction of former landscapes and environments associated with Quaternary sediments, with a particular interest in wetland landscapes. One of my key strengths lies in deposit modelling, and I am passionate about visualising past landscapes and understanding their impact on environments and human societies of the past.

I have a wide-ranging skill set, with considerable expertise in geoarchaeology and archaeological science, including wetland palaeobotany. I have a particular interest in the way past human societies perceived and utilised their environment, and I believe that the field of geoarchaeology makes a significant contribution to our understanding of this important, but sometimes complex, interaction.

I am motivated by delivering high-quality geoarchaeological projects for clients, from project design and co-ordination of fieldwork, through to the interpretation of big datasets and publication of the results.

Outside of work I enjoy running and playing five-aside football, keeping up with my 1-year-old daughter, watching films and reading science fiction.
