Andrea Burgess

I first joined Wessex Archaeology in 2010, initially as a Project Manager and from 2016 as Research Director, leading the post-excavation reporting, finds and archives teams across all our offices.

In 2024, I was appointed Systems Implementation Director. In this role, and as a member of the Senior Leadership Team, I apply my broad understanding of business, operational and user needs to ensure our systems and our management processes are fit for purpose and, most importantly, ensure our staff have training and support to use them. 

After completing my degree, I began my archaeological career as a site technician and remained in fieldwork for many years, ultimately directing and managing excavations. Before joining Wessex Archaeology, I worked for an international planning and environmental consultancy and later as a county curator advising local planning authorities on archaeological issues.
