To celebrate 40 years of Wessex Archaeology and 10 years of our regional office in Kent, we are holding an Open Day on Saturday 12 October 2019.

We’ll be transforming our office into themed rooms, concentrating on technology, science sustainability and art.

Celebrating our success

Delve into the world of archaeology and see how we investigate sites ahead of development projects, how we interpret what we find and how we make sure that it is shared with the community.

Archaeology is about more than just digging; on the day you we’ll be showcasing our technological advances and innovative scientific techniques, and demonstrating the intrinsic links between heritage, community and creativity.

The future of heritage

As well as looking back at our success in the region, we will also be focussing on the future of archaeology. We’ll be demonstrating:

  • How new technologies are used to help us understand the past
  • How an understanding of the past contributes to our interpretation of where we fit in to the wider environment
  • The contribution art makes to our understanding of the past, helping to bring the past to life and encouraging us to look with fresh eyes

Something for everyone

There will be fun, interactive displays looking at our key themes, including demonstrations of tech and archaeological objects to handle.
We’ll also have hands-on activities on offer for children and families.
We hope to see you there!
