On Thursday 4 October 2019, Wessex Archaeology London & South East team exhibited at the Kent Construction Expo, the annual event aimed at bringing together the South East’s construction industry to showcase innovations, share knowledge and discuss the future.
Our stand demonstrated our regional capability, delivered on a local level and supported by our wider team of world-class experts. Having been a presence in London and the South East for the past 10 years, we have significant experience of managing heritage risk on construction projects in a variety of sectors and sizes. We talked about our recent work across various sites for the Ashford housing developments, as well as infrastructure projects such as the Thames Tideway Tunnel.
Colleagues in the industry were able to view and handle one of our medium-sized UAVs (drones), used to demonstrate our increasing technological capability used alongside traditional methods to provide safer, more targeted solutions to managing the archaeology on their sites.
Visitors were particularly excited by our virtual reality (VR) experience which was on offer in the demo area. Through our Oculus Rift headset, people found themselves exploring a reconstructed Roman villa – every detail of which was created by our in-house 3D Modeller (Environment Builder). As an educational charity, community engagement is at the heart of what we do. This is something that adds value to clients’ projects as we can help deliver against engagement and legacy goals.
Many thanks to all who contributed their time and knowledge to our quiz – we really value the feedback we received and will use it to ensure our service is the best that it can be.
