Wessex Archaeology’s northern team continued their busy summer of outreach at the Workers’ Educational Association’s (WEA) summer fayre on 27 June at Clifton Park, Rotherham. The event was very well attended and featured workshops and demonstrations including family history, sugarcraft, singing, cupcakes, jewellery making, yarn spinning and birds of prey, as well as Jeanette Plummer Sires and Alix Sperr from the Wessex Sheffield office and their ‘sands of time’.
Jeanette and Alix worked tirelessly in extreme heat, with the Wessex stall proving very popular once again – local children were able to dig for real archaeological finds in our sandpit excavation and the pottery jigsaw challenge proved equally popular. The day proved a great success and we look forward to working with WEA at their next event!
