Salisbury residents flocked to the Guildhall yesterday to find out more about local volunteering opportunities. Organised by the Stonehenge Learning & Outreach Coordination Group (SLOCG), the Volunteer Fair featured displays from Wiltshire Wildlife Trust, Salisbury Cathedral, Stonehenge and many more.

Wessex Archaeology’s Community & Education Officer was also present, recruiting new members for our active volunteer programme. Volunteering opportunities at Wessex Archaeology usually revolve around the post-excavation processing of artefacts and are based at our head office near Old Sarum. We are currently washing and marking the artefacts from the Operation Nightingale excavation at Barrow Clump

Over 60 people attended the event, in spite of the miserable weather. Visitors enjoyed learning about the opportunities available, chatting to members of the various organisations and, of course, the free tea and coffee!
