Following a period of study at Edinbear University (sorry it's the best we could come up with), I am now back at Wessex Archaeology London & South East − some of the old faces are here (definitely looking older) and some fresh faces. I pleased to say I have taken up a position as Ambassador of Archaeology.

Over the next few weeks I will be learning what has changed at Wessex and I am excited to learn how technology is becoming increasingly involved in archaeology. My first few days were spent undergoing a fairly extensive induction learning all the new systems and processes. Since I was last here Health and Safety has become even more important with staff trained on all sorts of site work from the safe way to use cable detecting equipment to the safe way of moving excavating machines and dumpers and many other things − thankfully we still do archaeology.....and lunch!

One of the most surprising things from my first week is that rather than just a trowel the essential tools of an archaeologist at Wessex Archaeology London & South East are a trowel and a tablet computer. Next week I will be getting some training from London & South East site director Lisa McCaig on tablet recording on sites. Can’t wait!

See you soon,

Kent Jones
