Wessex Archaeology’s beloved archaeologist, flint knapper and all round good guy Phil is heading up North to support the Young Archaeologists’ Club’s fundraising entry in the York Dragon Boat Race.

The boat will be crewed by the Council for British Archaeology’s crack team of YAC fundraisers, the New YAC Dolls, and Phil will be spurring them on to victory by drumming the pace at the prow of the boat.

Phil says, ‘I’m glad to participate in this exciting opportunity to raise funds for a worthy cause and I hope our involvement in the race encourages people to donate money to ensure the future of the Young Archaeologists’ Club.’

The Young Archaeologists’ Club provides vital opportunities for young people to get hands on with heritage and to discover their past. Run centrally by the Council for British Archaeology but supported regionally by an army of volunteers, this fundraiser is important to the long-term success of the club. To pledge your support, visit the New YAC Dolls' fundraising page.

Phil will also be supporting YAC by auctioning one of his handaxes (a rare prize!) at The Salisbury Museum on July 12th when the Museum opens its new Archaeology of Wessex Gallery.
