Wessex Archaeology is busy preparing for the ‘Magna Carta in the Castle’ event at Pontefract Castle on Saturday 20 June 2015. We will be giving all budding archaeologists the chance to practice their digging skills in our Sand Pit Excavation which will be filled with real archaeological finds, along with a few other surprises. Everyone will also be able to take away a worksheet which provides information about Pontefract Castle, designed by Wessex Archaeology’s graphics team. The event runs from 11am to 4pm and entry is free.
The Magna Carta day is the first of several conservations days held at Pontefract Castle which Wessex Archaeology is helping to deliver as part of the ‘Key to the North’ project, funded by the HLF.
