Viking warriors, medieval merchants and Civil War soldiers descended on a field in Dorset at the weekend for the Chalke Valley History Festival.

Re-enactors mingled with celebrities and thousands of visitors at this annual celebration of all things historical. Visitors enjoyed various battles, jousts and impressive air displays as they explored the site, which featured several living history encampments, a Saxon Grubenhaus and food and drink outlets from every culture. An extensive and varied programme of talks ran throughout the weekend.

Wessex Archaeology joined in the fun with a display about our historic building services and some unusual artefacts and stories. The event was an excellent opportunity to speak to people about who we are and what we do, not to mention the chance to watch a Spitfire do aerobatics whilst eating a Bratwurst!
