It is with great pleasure that we announce that Dr Stuart Eve FSA MCIfA will be joining Wessex Archaeology as Chief Executive in April 2024.
Stu is a respected and innovative leader with over 25 years of experience developing archaeological and heritage practices in the UK and internationally. Having co-founded L - P : Archaeology in 2000 and, for more than 20 years, steered the thriving company, he successfully transferred the business to MOLA in 2022 where he is currently Director of Research and Innovation.
In addition to his extensive commercial experience - where he is known for championing sustainable and creative solutions to managing the historic environment - Stu has an impressive research portfolio and publication record and has directed projects across the world, from the Stonehenge and Avebury World Heritage Site to the Battlefield of Waterloo.
On his appointment, Stuart said: “Throughout my career, I have looked to Wessex Archaeology, with a legacy of 45 years of world-leading archaeological practice and heritage management, for inspiration and examples of best practice and innovation. It is, therefore, a true honour to be joining the organisation as Chief Executive. I look forward to enabling and working collaboratively with the team to build and expand on that legacy, both in the UK and beyond.”
Ian Selby, Chair of the Board of Trustees at Wessex Archaeology, said: “Stuart is an established and highly regarded figure in UK commercial archaeology. As both an experienced leader and steadfast advocate for the heritage sector, we are delighted to be welcoming him to Wessex Archaeology as our next Chief Executive. Over his career, Stuart has been guided by his deep-rooted strategic vision and we look forward to working with him to shape a successful and rewarding future for Wessex Archaeology.”
