Artists take inspiration from everything around them, and last week one artist looked back at the past to prompt his next creation. Jacques Limousin visited Wessex Archaeology’s Salisbury office with Art Historian Elisabeth Vitou and Libby Langlands from NewArtCentre. Whilst here they explored some of the tangible remains of our heritage – the artefacts – with our finds team.

Jacques is planning sculpture which will be displayed at Roche Court later this year and anticipates that the Roman tesserae, post-medieval clay pipes and excavated animal bone he studied at our offices will inspire his work. By using art to connect the past with an audience in the present, Jacques’ work will add further value to archaeological material.

Our finds team greatly enjoyed the visit and look forward to seeing the final exhibition.
