These tours are part of the Castlegate Festival 2024 and are funded by Sheffield City Council and the Sheffield Business Improvement District.
As part of the creation of a multi-million pound new park in the historic area of Castlegate, this is your chance to see the newly revealed remains of Sheffield Castle, buried for around 400 years and to learn about the exciting future for the River Sheaf, also soon to be uncovered for the first time in over 100 years as part of the new park. Join us to learn about the history of the Castle and what recent excavations have unearthed as well as how we ‘lost’ the Sheaf plus some surprising gems of Castlegate’s more recent hidden history. During the first half of these tours, we will explore the recent archaeological works, before then moving on to focus on the River Sheaf in the second half.
