When zooarchaeology is required
Our zooarchaeologist works with clients on projects ranging from initial identification and interpretation of faunal remains assemblages through to full analysis and publication.
Services include:
- Assessment of potential and recommendations for further work
- Full analysis and reporting to publication standard, including producing a detailed catalogue for your site archive
- On-site advice for dealing with unusual deposits of faunal remains
- Selection of suitable material for radiocarbon dating
To aid this work Wessex Archaeology has an extensive collection of modern reference material comprising mammals, birds, fish and amphibians.
Our specialist has over 20 years of professional experience in zooarchaeology, has contributed to national guidelines for best practice in the analysis of animal bones and has a track record of publication.
Zooarchaeological work at Wessex Archaeology is complemented by in-house services such as finds illustration, finds conservation, photogrammetry, RTI photography and x-ray facilities.
