Wessex Archaeology offers outstanding expertise in a range of survey techniques including Auger Surveys. These are used in landscapes made up of soft sediment where drilling is not possible. Our experts use hand auger surveys to collect soil samples containing geoarchaeological data from far below the surface. This helps to identify any layers, features or areas which might be archaeologically significant.
The results of Auger Surveys can be used to construct a deposit model for the site and core samples are usually returned to our laboratories, where they are interpreted and subsampled by Wessex Archaeology’s team of specialists.
