The HMS Victory Conservation Management Plan (CMP) project team continue to forge ahead with the CMP for one of the most iconic historic ships from the age of sail anywhere in the world. The initial phases including site investigation and research and the assessment of significance are now complete. A consultation programme was conducted in January which aims to ensure that key consultees and stakeholders engage with the future preservation of the ship. The team are now looking at the key issues and policies associated with the CMP process and will be moving forward to the delivery of the CMP later this year.
In addition our historic ship CMP portfolio has also been given a real boost with the commission from the National Museum of the Royal Navy to undertake the CMP for the WWI battle of Jutland veteran light cruiser HMS Caroline. The iconic ship based in Belfast will form the focus for visitor interest in the Belfast maritime quarter next to the Titanic experience and help develop Belfast as a primary tourist destination. The CMP will inform an HLF stage 2 bid to develop a key WWI commemoration project and to conserve the ship in time for the 2016 centenary of Jutland. The team are currently deployed on the site investigation and research and have recently commissioned a laser scan survey to aid interpretation.
